Home Run Park

Although the Ken Waldie SSC caters to seniors, this tourney is not restricted to ages 50 and over. We are open to all who want to support our efforts to provide a quality sports program for seniors while keeping the memory of our friend Ken Waldie alive. Pictures below are from previous events held at Home Run Park in Lawrence. Look for this event again each May. We expect it to grow in popularity. Also, we will offer a winter league. Contact us via the Feedback link if you want to take part in either of these activities.

We set up free-standing courts (12' by 72') right on the Astroturf carpeting. Home Run Park, (5 Franklin St., Lawrence, Mass.) is an old mill building from Lawrence's glory days. The facility is popular with baseball & softball coaches and players who go there to hone their hitting, fielding, and pitching skills. Check them out at homerunpark.com.

Outdoor/Indoor Seasons

We play Monday mornings at 9:00 and all are welcome. Our outdoor "circuit" previously involved alternating between backyard courts in Methuen and Bradford. Now we play at our new venue in Salem, NH (four 12' by 80' courts). Also, we are lobbying for court construction in the public sector. Email us from our Feedback link on this page if you would like to join us, or call 978-686-8679.

Learn more about bocce...

Hey, one of our bocce players - the one who manages this website (Mario Pagnoni - that's him in the photo to the right - the guy with the hat on trying to hold in his gut) has written the only instructional book on bocce in America. It has info on how to play, where to get equipment, how to build a court, and more. Check out his website (www.joyofbocce.com) for more details. Also, you can sign up at that site's Feedback link for his FREE newsletter, The Joy of Bocce Weekly. "Pag" runs bocce clinics, demonstrations, and tournaments around the country.

Action in the 2002 tourney was fast and furious. Here the Bocce Belles put the heat on the Derry Devils. That's Marie with the excellent pointing form.

The tension is too much for Patty as she bites the last fingernail she has left!

Carmela uses body English to coax that shot into position.

Tom was a mainstay for Doc's Gang who actually didn't stay around too long in the tourney.

Three-year-old Justine was ready to "pinch hit" for mom (Maryanne).

Spectators were enthralled with the quality of play!

Novice Division champs Glen Gearin, Maryanne Gearin, Micky Hamilton, and Al Giglio holding their Ken Waldie SSC sweatshirts.

Open Division winners Steve Zanni, Jerry Valley, Bob Hindman, and Steve Touma sport their new Ken Waldie SSC jackets.
