Hoops begins in November

Full court 50 and over hoop begins in November at Latitude Sports Clubs in Methuen. We have paid referees and are shooting for eight teams in the league. {Don't worry, those young pups in the photo won't be playing}

In addition to the full court basketball league, we'll have one night per week of three-on-three half-court hoop. Three-on-three is the purest form of basketball. Basketball really is a game of two-and three-man plays. We'll have scrimmage vests that are Ranger blue on one side and white on the other (no shirts and skins for this high powered operation - besides, have you ever seen these guys with their shirts off?). It's not a pretty sight. Use the form below to register for hoop - 3 on 3 will be Thursday nights at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Lawrence. Full court will be played at Latitude Sports Clubs in Methuen on Sunday afternoons. No young pups - you must have at least turned 50 by 12/31/11.

Harvey Lewis can still shoot the roundball. He's had a deadly two-handed set shot since high school in '46 (that's 1946, not 1846).

The great follow-through (see how both hands release the ball at the same time) is the secret of Harvey's shooting success. A long range bomber, his teammates say "If he's in bounds, he's in range."

Just like Peter Picarillo (the hooker in the photo to the left), we are looking for versatile athletes who play several sports and want to pursue an active and healthy lifestyle in their senior years. With a little work you could have a "sky hook" like Pic's. But don't try to beat him in bocce. He's just too tough!
